"The
Fine Art of Terrazzo" unveiled
at the AIA convention in Las Vegas May 19th
The "Future of Terrazzo" was unveiled at the AIA convention in Las Vegas May 19th. Artist Eileen Borgeson has been collaborating with members of the Terrazzo industry for the last couple of months to bring her piece, "Virtress", to fruition in Terrazzo. "Virtress", Eileen's future deco design, is from one of her "Black Glass" editions, and is also available in Czech Crystal, laser cut metal and Giclee editions.
The new Terrazzo edition pieces were on display at two locations in the convention: the Sherwin-Williams' General Polymers brand booth as well as the Heritage Glass booth.
Eileen is a prolific artist working in many mediums, including: bronze, crystal, holography and now Terrazzo. Her art editions can be found in Museums, Corporate and Private Collections in over 50 countries and is valued in the tens of millions of dollars. She has been commissioned to create custom pieces for many individuals, including: B. B. King, Elton John, Dalai Lama, President Ronald Reagan, Hugh Hefner & Aerosmith, to name just a few. Her interpretations of many Warner Bros., Disney and John Lennon images evolved into "fine art" glass editions. Collaborating directly with Erté, considered the "Father of Art Deco", she interpreted his designs into illuminated crystal editions during his last seven years.
This "Virtress" Terrazzo piece was an accomplished effort that used the talents and experience of many companies and individuals.
First, Eileen's design was laser cut by Mike and Shawn Wylie, Wylie Metals, to create the "Virtress" pattern in acrylic to create the shiny black image outline. Then, Dan Chavarria, the Terrazzo artist, (Reef Development & Ohana Flooring), assembled, ground and polished the piece. Eileen and he consulted by phone during the process referring to the "Virtress" Black Glass piece for color and composition accents. Chris Popham, Sherwin-Williams General Polymers representative, supplied and coordinated the mixing of the colors for the polymer. Tom Murphy, Sherwin-Williams General Polymers VP Marketing, made a general announcement of the editions release during the National Terrazzo and Mosaic Association's convention in Naples, Florida earlier in April. Tony Avila, of Louis W. Osborne Marble, selected and supplied the marble pieces. Ken Thornley, Heritage Glass, supplied the glass and consulted with Eileen as to the effects, color and accents the various pieces of his glass (all recycled) offered. Terrazzo "Virtress", our future's explorer, now sparkles with the refraction of glass and the designs of marble.
E Art Gallery, Inc. is the art publisher of these editions. Through them, Eileen's art is available for license in many mediums, now to include Terrazzo. Chronicles of her 2-D and 3-D art are showcased in E Art's online gallery, www.EileenBorgeson.com. She is also approachable for private and public commissions. The 1% art-in-public-places budgets, available for certain types of architectural projects, are a prime target for the use of Eileen's capabilities. She offers the opportunity to incorporate museum quality fine art into design elements of any building project. Collaborating with Eileen also enables the architect to leave his/her "artistic signature" in the architecture itself for many years to come.
Terrazzo is one of the most beautiful "mixed-media" flooring materials available. It has been one of the most enduring and desired buildings materials since the ancient Roman times and is now entering into the 21st century. By incorporating new technological applications and breakthroughs, Eileen is now creating laser cut designs for floor art, wall art as well as three-dimensional Terrazzo sculptures.
Already in the works is a piece, "Cybernetic Circuitry", which will include faceted optical crystal with holographic 3-D optical & kinetic effects. As we venture into this new millennium, art is finding itself in every aspect of our life. Be it the art on our walls, the environment we walk through, the floors we walk on and now, through holography, the walls we'll walk through.
